1st June 2012 - The day my beloved hamster Icy left me

As I'm sitting on a bench at Paya Lebar, I recalled the beautiful memories Icy brought to me and my family. Still remember the first day when I brought her and Ashley home on 11th June 2011, they were very small and fragile. I forgot why I named her Icy, probably of her whitish fur. I didn't dare to carry them for at least 2 weeks. I had to use their house cap to carry them , only dared to stroke them. But I soon overcome the fear, and still remember that "invisible" feeling of them crawling on my hands when they weren't in the beginning.

Icy was the first to be friendly to me. She wasn't as "fierce" as Ashley to keep biting me when I carried her. Icy was a very active, strong-willed and smart little girl. Every morning and evening, she would climb around the cage for minutes, for hours, waiting for my dad to feed her. Even when Ashley is tired of seeking attention, she still kept on biting the cage. She hardly rested when running in the exercise ball, and even after running for 30 mins, she would still continue to run on the wheel. That's how active she was. And you know what? She could go over the little hump between the living room and kitchen many times when she's inside the exercise ball! Even when she realised she couldn't, she would reverse, and try again, until she could go over it. Such a determined little girl. At times, when both Ashley and Icy were biting the cage, she would wait for a chance, wait for Ashley to help her open the cafe, and then quickly sneaked out of the gate while Ashley is still struggling simply because he's too fat! Lol. She's a really really smart girl. My mum likes her alot.

Oh ya I remember she liked to do this lol

I like how she would follow me around the house while exercising in the morning. I like how she would welcome me home when I return. I like how she eats very slowly, just like me. I like her blur looking face when she woke up, disturbed by me. I like how she reversed and climbed over the little hump. I like how she sayang me back with her head when I sayang her. I like how she bites the cage for hours. I just like everything about her.

For the past few days, things started to change alittle. Icy ate lesser than usual, but we thought to observe for alittle while more. And this afternoon all of her sudden, her health worsened, and I rushed her to the vet. The vet said her chance of surviving through the night is only 10%, and it could be better to put her to sleep. I choosed to put her to sleep to end her suffering. I opted to watch the whole Euthenasia process and it pained me to see her pass on infront of me. Icy, I hope you will forgive me.

The last moment of Icy before her death
Icy, thanks for being such a wonderful baby to me. The past one year has been filled with beautiful memories of you and Ashley. Thanks for bringing happiness to my life. I hope you enjoyed your stay with me. I hope that you've been happy and you love me too. Do remember us. I will remember you as a sweet little girl, and your Daddy, Ah gong and Ah ma, and Jiu Jiu will remember you always. The time together has been short, but thanks for everything. We love you very much and we will miss you.
